Everything you need to know about sebum, testing and building a routine around your result.
The kit includes four sebum testing strips: two for your initial assessment and two for a future retest. The strips are used on two scalp locations to give you a better picture of your scalp's oil balance.
Two strips are used for your first assessment and two are reserved for retesting. This allows you to compare your scalp over time and see whether your scalp-care needs have changed.
For the scalp assessment, test the Hairline and the Middle Part/Crown area. Testing two locations helps identify differences across the scalp, including combination results.
The strip test itself takes about 5 seconds. After testing, you can photograph your results and continue through the AI assessment for a more personalized scalp-care recommendation.
Sebum levels can vary across your scalp. Testing both the Hairline and Middle Part/Crown helps the system recognize when one area is drier or oilier than another instead of treating the entire scalp as identical.
The system reviews the appearance of the photographed strip and proposes a sebum level from 0 to 3, ranging from none/light to moderate/heavy. You are then able to review and confirm the proposed level as part of your assessment.
You are not required to accept the AI's proposed level. The RootRise assessment allows you to confirm the result so your final assessment reflects both the AI-assisted review and your input.
Yes. RootRise can provide an assessment experience using your questionnaire and other information when a strip is not available. For the full sebum-matched experience, however, using the RootRise Sebum Test provides additional information about your scalp's oil level.
Your sebum level is only one part of your scalp-care picture. The questionnaire helps the system consider your routine, how your scalp feels, product use, styling habits, and other relevant factors when creating your recommendation.
